In Monday’s episode (October 6), Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to tease Donald Trump after the host surpassed the former president by 16 points in a YouGov poll.
+ At 99, Dick Van Dyke jokes about turning 100: “It would be funny if I didn’t make it”
“According to a new YouGov poll — a serious research institute, or at least it was before this — I’m more popular than the president of the United States,” Kimmel joked during his opening monologue on the show.
According to the late-night host, more than a thousand people participated in the survey, which shows Kimmel with a 44% approval rating and 41% disapproval, while Trump received 41% approval and 54% disapproval.
He noted that his rating should probably be a bit higher for a few reasons.
“But considering I’m not a convicted criminal, not friends with Jeffrey Epstein, and haven’t sent a team of masked men to drag a grandma away from her grandkids, I think my approval rating should be even higher, don’t you?”

Despite his jokes, Kimmel suggested that the president likely hadn’t paid much attention to the poll — but after an official statement from Trump, he believes the former president definitely saw it.
“More than 77 million Americans turned out on Election Day to vote for President Donald J. Trump, who continues to fulfill his overwhelming mandate to put America first,” the statement began.
“Jimmy Kimmel prays every night to get a fraction of that support and keep his show on the air after his ratings dropped 64% last week. Sad!” the statement concluded.
“You know what’s even sadder?” Kimmel responded. “That the president of the United States has a lower approval rating than Diddy and diarrhea. That’s what’s sad. I’ve got an idea — release the Epstein files,” he quipped.
